PEACE CONFERENCE 2012 - INTERRUPTING OUR CULTURE OF VIOLENCE

SUNDAY, MARCH 25, 2012; 2pm - 5pm

Unitarian Universalist Church West, 13001 W. North Ave, Brookfield, WI



Peace Seekers of Washington County is one of many co-sponsors for this program.

The conference will feature a one hour panel/Q&A session moderated by Jack Murtaugh, who has extensive experience as a moderator with 4th Street Forum. Panelists will examine forms of violence in our society and strategies for interrupting the culture of violence at home and abroad. Confirmed panelists will be:

- Ramon Candelaria, Community Director of Medical College of Wisconsin's Violence Prevention Initiative, working on youth violence prevention and developing neighborhood resources to prevent violence http://www.mcw.edu/vpi.htm

- Tio Hardiman, Director of CeaseFire Illinois http://ceasefirechicago.org/how-it-works , who was featured in the award-winning documentary film "The Interrupters" http://interrupters.kartemquin.com/

- Patrick Kennerly, Associate Director of Marquette Center for Peace-Making who has worked with Afghani youth and local youth using non-violent techniques http://www.marquette.edu/magazine/recent.php?subaction=showfull&id=1305645060&archive

- Barb Notestein, Executive Director of Safe & Sound, an award-winning model for neighborhood crime reduction and safe alternatives for youth. http://www.safesound.org/

The conference will also feature small group discussions on how violence affects us personally and a choice of a one hour workshop.

Each of the panelists will offer a workshop which stresses their particular program for ending violence. Additionally, Phyllis Lardinois coordinator of Guidance and Counseling Waukesha School System will present an anti-bullying workshop.
