"Peace Seekers will have a float in the annual Hartford Christmas Parade on Saturday, November 12 at 3:00 pm. Theme is: “Our “Home” Town Celebrates 25 years of “Home” Made Christmas’”. We will use the basic float from last year – beautiful representation of Bethlehem – but need creative ideas for linking in with the theme. All are invited to (a) share creative ideas; (b) help put the float together on Friday, 11/11/11; and (c) participate in the float walk/ride on 11/12/11.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21st, "Afghanistan: Will We Ever Leave?" with Matt Rothschild, editor of the Progressive Magazine, will meet at 7:00 p.m. at the Milwaukee Friends Meeting House, 3224 N Gordon Pl. ( two blocks east of Humboldt on Auer).

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25th CELEBRATE PEACE! We will be having a two-part program celebrating the “International Day of Peace” and “Experiences in the Peace Corps” featuring ex-volunteers who will share their experiences and the impact on their lives.

Wisconsin’s new Concealed Carry Law will become effective on November 1. 2011. The Peace Seekers of Washington County is sponsoring an event to help educate local businesses and consumers on the new law and how it will affect them. The talk will focus on how consumers and business owners alike can encourage local businesses to ban weapons in their establishments. The event is free and open to the public – all are encouraged to attend.

Heidi Rose, Program and Administrative Mgr. for the Wisconsin Anti-Violence Effort Educational Fund (WAVE) will be the speaker.

Our NEXT MEETING will take place at the Islamic Resource Center for Community Outreach, 5235 S. 27th Street, Greenfield on Saturday, July 23 in support of its open house and the new "home" for the Milwaukee Muslim Women's Coalition. The open house is from 12 noon - 5 pm. If you wish to carpool, consider the following options: (a) 11:30 am - 12:30 pm vigil; (b) 12:30 - 1:15 pm lunch at Paneras in West Bend; © leave from Paneras @ 1:15 pm & carpool to the open house. He cited some interesting WI political history and really fired up the audience to unite in solidarity!

Kevin Mulvenna was one of the two folks who made a video of John Nichols talk at the JCC on Saturday evening organized by STAND-UP and We Are Wisconsin. Kevin also videotaped two other speakers at an event organized by SD8 We are Wisconsin at the MATC campus in Mequon. Last year we all had so much fun that we thought we should do this again! We look forward to seeing you at our second collaborative community festival event. Again this year representatives from many West Bend groups will join us to share their focus on building bridges and opportunities to helping one another in the community.

This is going to be an event of simple pleasures: non-commercial and green*. There will be a delicious potluck (all are asked to bring a potluck dish to pass and their own drinks), Mexican Folklore Dancers, the Quint-Essential singing group, Improv and family games. **Ridge Run’s shelter #1 sits in a beautiful part of the woods on the Ice Age Trail next to a new playground and bathroom, and a grassy field for games.

Christmas parades in Hartford and West Bend.

We are planning on having floats in both the Hartford (theme is "Christmas: Past, Present and Future") and West Bend (theme is "Twas the Night Before Christmas") Christmas parades. Our thrust in both will be similar: "Peace on Earth" throughout our world with representatives from different countries (Peace Seekers wearing international outfits - we have a variety & some participants will actually be from other countries or have their own representative clothing).

What we need is some of you participating by either riding in the trailer or walking a relatively short distance. The Hartford parade will start at 3 pm, Saturday, November 13 (we'll gather at 2:30 pm). The West Bend parade will start at 5 pm, Sunday, November 28 (we'll gather at 4:30 pm). Details for both will follow for those participating. NOTE: kids are cordially invited to participate.

Anna Baltzer is a 29-year-old Jewish American Columbia graduate, Fulbright Scholar, author, and the granddaughter of Holocaust refugees. As a three-time volunteer with the International Women's Peace Service in the West Bank, Baltzer documented human rights abuses and supported Palestinian-led nonviolent resistance to the Occupation. PLAY: MY NAME IS RACHEL CORRIE

Marquette University’s Helfaer Theatre in Milwaukee, Wisconsin will be staging a production of My Name is Rachel Corrie on Monday, February 16th 7:30pm and Tuesday the 17th at 5pm and 8pm. Admission is free. The play is being put on as part of a senior project featuring Jennifer Shine as Rachel and is directed by Phylis Ravel. A “talk back” discussion session is scheduled to follow each of the three performances.
Rachel Corrie was a 23-year-old American peace activist killed on March 16, 2003 by a bulldozer operated by the Israel Defense Forces.
Rachel was protesting the destruction of Palestinian homes in the Gaza Strip.

I spent some time this weekend helping to show the impact of the number of military people killed in Iraq.

The vets for peace, placed 2700 grave markers in a local park.

It was a very humbling experience, knowing that each time I placed a marker, it symbolized another dead person.

The photo shows the field and some of the people who helped put it together.

Among the observers were veterans who believe we must end the war and come home as soon as possible.

Reading names of the dead include a Desert Storm vet and the mother of a current son in the Army.

Our History

Founded in 1985 to oppose the war mongering foreign policies of President Reagan, Peace Seekers at that time met to support each other, share information, write letters, and witness publicly.

After 9/11/01, membership grew as a response to the false patriotism, national fear, and talk of a revenge war. Between the wars against Afghanistan and Iraq, or membership increased with people of all ages and occupations attending our meetings and events in numbers of up to 100.

Our organization grew in its different activities. We became more organized, setting up a phone tree and e-mail alert system, newsletter, displays, Steering Committees, and regular events.

We affiliated with Peace Action Wisconsin in 2002, receiving training in organizing and issues and now share resources.

In 2003 we joined Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice, a coalition of over 141 organizations.

We now have a newsletter mailing list of over 250 with events and meetings every month. Although we are not affiliated with any church, we use facilities of area churches for our events, which see peacemaking as an obvious part of their ministry.
