We look forward to seeing you at our second collaborative community festival event. Again this year representatives from many West Bend groups will join us to share their focus on building bridges and opportunities to helping one another in the community.

This is going to be an event of simple pleasures: non-commercial and green*. There will be a delicious potluck (all are asked to bring a potluck dish to pass and their own drinks), Mexican Folklore Dancers, the Quint-Essential singing group, Improv and family games. **Ridge Run’s shelter #1 sits in a beautiful part of the woods on the Ice Age Trail next to a new playground and bathroom, and a grassy field for games.

Schedule of Events:
12:00 Festival Begins. The event emphasizes the simple pleasures of community and is, essentially, commerce-free. We’d like to play some old-fashioned family games together, such as kickball, three legged and sack races etc… while the entertainment comes from musicians in our community.

** DIRECTIONS: Travel west on Hwy 33 past the intersection with 45 – go south on Scenic Drive (the third left after hwy 45 is a four-way stoplight with Villa Park Drive going north and Scenic Drive going south) – travel about one mile and turn left into the Ridge Run County Park entrance—Shelter #1 is at the end of the road.

Stand for Peace: New Location

Our new West Bend location for Stand for Peace is at the corner of Decorah and Main.
11:30 am-12:30 pm
The second and fourth Saturdays of the month.

FREE Peace Conference Sunday March 27

Ending Wars: New Practical Ways for Peace-Building
Eng. st., 100min, video, 2002)
This award-winning film chronicles the life of Rachida, a young school teacher, during the Algerian Civil War in the 1990s. Her life is turned upside-down when confronted by a former student, now a member of a terrorist group, who threatens her life for her to assist their heinous plot. She refuses to commit the unspeakable act, and is subsequently shot and left for dead. Rachida recovers and retreats to a small village with her mother for “protection”, only to discover that the eruptive violence has permeated the countryside. A stark look at the affect grassroots terrorism has upon the rituals and institutions of those caught in its wake, Rachida is a powerful character study not to be missed.

Middle East North Africa Film Fest

The very first film of the Middle East North Africa Film Fest! Between the wars against Afghanistan and Iraq, or membership increased with people of all ages and occupations attending our meetings and events in numbers of up to 100.

Our organization grew in its different activities. We became more organized, setting up a phone tree and e-mail alert system, newsletter, displays, Steering Committees, and regular events.

We affiliated with Peace Action Wisconsin in 2002, receiving training in organizing and issues and now share resources.

In 2003 we joined Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice, a coalition of over 141 organizations.

We now have a newsletter mailing list of over 250 with events and meetings every month. Although we are not affiliated with any church, we use facilities of area churches for our events, which see peacemaking as an obvious part of their ministry.

Committees

All Peace Seekers committees are open to new members.
